In most movies there is always one character who rocks the boat. One character who is out to hurt the hero of the movie. It can be as simple as Biff in Back to the Future or Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies.
In sports there are also villains! Guys who make our hero's(sports team) look bad and rile up a whole fan base in the process. So who are the biggest villains in sports? Here are my top 5 and I'd love to hear yours!!
1. LeBron James-Why is James number 1? Well he only announced he was leaving his home town team on an over hyped interview on ESPN called "The Decision" He quit on his team in the Conference Finals and he rips on them whenever he gets the chance. Check out his Twitter account! He has gone from a guy who was the savior of a small market team to a guy who sold his basketball soul to join the all star stacked team. He is now looked at as a guy who "sold out" to win a championship. He might go down as the Barry Bonds of basketball, the guy who is only really like by his own fan base.
2. Alex Rodriguez-Is paid more than $5 million dollars more per year than any other player in the game. He left a Mariners team that won over 100 games to go to a losing Rangers team. He later joined the Yankees, because no one besides the Yankees could afford his salary. He has shown at numerous times how dirty of a player he is. Hitting the ball out of the hands of Bronson Arroyos hand while running by him. He gets busted for steroids and then says he just did them the year he got busted. Whats crazy about A-Rod is unlike Barry Bonds, he isn't even that liked in his own town. People will never think he is a "Real Yankee" whatever the hell that means...
3. Bill Belichick- I think Spygate says it all. People don't like cheaters.
4. Rex Ryan- Rex Ryan loves Rex Ryan and he loves to tell everyone how much better his team is than yours. He is a cocky and conceited coach who probably doesn't have a long life span in the NFL as a head coach. Eventually his players will probably get tired of him. Most fan bases already feel that way.
5. Ben Roethlisberger- He is just an ass. He has been in trouble multiple times for being accused of sexually assaulting drunk girls. He only got a 4 game suspension and he was able to just slip back into the line up like nothing happened. He is also a winner of two super bowls and probably not nearly as talented as other QBs who have won multiple rings. He is not that liked by his piers either. Look at what Richard Seymour did to him.
So what do you guys think? Who are the most hated sports players today?
I am not a hater. I will never be in the situation these guys are in so I will not judge them. It is not easy to be rich and famous and I would not even want to. Rich without fame would be fine however.
ReplyDeleteYour list does make sense if you want to name the biggest villins but how can you include Rex Ryan?
Rex Ryan loves Rex Ryan and he loves to tell everyone how much better his team is than yours. He is a cocky and conceited coach. This is all true but he tells it like it is and I love that. He knows how to get the most out of his players.
My list would be similar to yours but take out Rex Ryan, Put Bill Belichick at #2, slide the others down to 3, 4, and 5 and put Brett Favre up there at the top. Old #4 held the Packers organization hostage for years. Then when the team moved on after he quit on them again, he used the Jets organization as a stepping stone to get to Minnesota and play the biggest enemy, the Vikings. I think almost all fans of any NFL teams were sick of his drama years ago. He started talking about quitting way back in 2002, I sure wish he would have.
Brett Favre admitted on national television that he wanted to "stick it to Ted Thompson" now to me, that is worse than anything LeBron James ever did!
Mike, only Packers fans feel that way. I don't think a Rams fan is upset because Favre said he wanted to stick it to Ted Thompson. The hatred for Lebron James is felt pretty much throughout the country. Its almost Barry Bonds status!!!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see why LBJ is #1 with his Decision and his ripping of the Cavs. I started disliking him after Game 6 against the Magic in the 08-09 season where he walked off the court without shaking hands with the winners. Similarly, I felt it was poor sportsmanship of Belichick to walk off the field with 1 second left in Super Bowl 42. Even with those incidents, I can't deny that those guys have a lot of talent, and that sometimes helps to excuse those mistakes for many fans.
ReplyDeleteJeremy I totally agree, I think that was the first time I really started disliking Lebaby. He just seemed like he had his own agenda and winning wasn't it. I do believe Wade and Lebaby had it planned for a few years that they would join up together somewhere.
ReplyDeleteIt did seem like if the Cavs weren't going to get him that championship, he had a backup plan. As far as Favre, Packer fans do have the biggest hate/dislike for him. I believe Jets fans would be second with the tease season he put them through, then the whole sexting scandal, and now the massage therapist stuff. Third would be Vikings fan after they saw Chilly bend over backwards to accommodate Favre, then last year the season end on an INT, and this year the disappointing record and tension between players and the coach. The rest of the league simply got tired of his off-and-on retirement talk. Just my two cents...
