WIld Card Weekend-Analysis and Predictions for Saints/Seahawks game

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Saints(11-5, 6-2 away) @      Seahawks(7-9, 5-3 home)  4:30 PM ET -NBC

It has been a rollercoaster year for both teams. It didn't start out too good for the defending champs as they started the season 4-3, including losses to Cleveland and Arizona. Injuries played a huge role to the slow start. They lost critical pieces to thier championship team in Pierre Thomas, Jeremy Shockey and Reggie Bush. Thier offense struggled in the first 7 games averaging only 21 points a game. Then guys like Chris Ivory and Julius Jones stepped up and filled in admirably. They finished the season winning 7 of thier last 9 games, including wins over playoff teasm such as Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Seattle.

The Seattle Seahawks made history this year after being the first team in NFL history to win their divsion with a sub par .500 record. They started the season 5-4 with wins over Chicago and San Diego. Then they lost Matt Hasselbeck and Mike Williams to various injuries and stumbled to the finishline losing 7 of thier last 10 games. They played the Saints in week 11 and the game was over at halftime! Drew Brees threw for 4 touchdowns in route to a 34-19 win.

The Saints are favored by 10.5 points on the road this Saturday and every expert I hear thinks it wont even be that close, but I disagree. Matt Hasselbeck will be back this week and they have a healthy Mike Willims and I think New Orleans can be run on so look for Marshawn Lynch to have a big day. I think Seattle keeps it close but loses in the end, 27-24.

  1. Wow Jamie I think you are giving Seattle way too much credit! I think it'll be more like 31-17 Saints!!

  3. I agree with your prediction Jamie but I think what the Seahawks get done will happen through the air. Marshawn Lynch is not a difference maker. In the end the Saints prevail because of the two most important things in the playoffs. Experience and Quarterback.

  4. With Peirre Thomas going on the IR for the Saints now I am starting to think those Seahawks just might have a chance (to be winning at halftime! the game? NO)
