NFL Playoffs are here!!

The NFL regular season has come to a close and what a strange year in the NFL.  I can't imagine gambling on a season like this one.  Look at some of the shocking and surprising things that have happened this season.
-Super Bowl hopefuls Minnesota, and Dallas crash and burn and lost their head coaches along the way.
-Injuries ravaged Super Bowl Hopefuls Indy and Green Bay, and both teams barely squeak into the Playoffs.
-Teams without much hope the last few years made their comebacks.  The Chiefs, Rams and Buccaneers all showed promise and definitely showed they are teams on the rise.
-The Lions actually won a road game....and then won another!!! Watch out for Detroit in 2011!
-The AFC South has to be the most disappointing division.  Going into the season everyone thought it would be a three team race.  Houston and Tennessee both lost pace pretty quickly after a strong start and Jacksonville actually became the closest to dethroning the Colts!
-The Oakland Raiders sweep their division........and they end up 8-8 and out of the playoffs.  Only the Raiders could manage to do that!
-New England trades Randy Moss, it looks like they are giving up.  Everyone things its the end for New England.  They only end up 14-2 and favorites to win the whole thing!
-Speaking of Randy Moss, what a year he had!  Starts off slow in New England, gets traded to Minnesota for a 3rd round draft pick, only lasts a few weeks there, and then ends up in Tennessee and catches a whopping 6 balls in 8 games!!
-The Bills end up being the best 4-12 football team of all time. Seriously with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB and Fred Jackson at running back the Bills made life very difficult for the rest of the league.  They could have easily won another 3 or 4 games with a few plays.
-The Saints, Packers, Ravens and Jets are teams most people picked to get first round byes and the road to the Super Bowl was supposed to go through them.  They are all Wild Cards and on the road for the playoffs! Probably the best Wild Card teams of all time!
-The Seattle Seahawks win their division at 7-9!!!  They were closer to being a 4-12 team than a 9-7 team!  They were outscored this year by their opponents 97 points and ended the year winning 3 out of 10 games.  Congrats we'll give you a freaking home game while Tampa and the NY Giants sit at home and wonder what could have been....

Enjoy the Playoffs, its been a wild ride to get there!

  1. Great Post! You had a lot of good things to say. The only thing I disagree with you is I think the NFC WEST has been the most disappointing division.

  2. Wild ride is right. Now that 12 teams have made it and 20 have gone home it would appear that a dozen teams are still in the running BUT the Seahawks have no business being in.
I think what became very obvious this season is that the NFL is a young man's league. When injuries threatened to knock the Colts and Packers off course both teams prevailed with young replacements that showed just how good these organizations are. When the Patriots decided to send Randy Moss away it looked like maybe this was a rebuilding situation but as it turns out, the Patriots won more games than any other team with some not so well known players.
On the flip side the Vikings tried to get one more year out of Brett Favre and welcomed Randy Moss back. These older players could no longer do it. This along with injuries to some young stars spelled doom for Minnesota.
All 11 teams ewntering these playofs with winning records have a real chance at playing in Superbowl XLV.
